Light and Laughter Brigade

I can’t believe how long it’s been since sitting down to write something on this site. Life has had some major ups and downs in the last 8 months that are impossible to encapsulate in this short message. Instead of trying to say everything, I’ll stick to music news.

I was lucky to go to Audiopollination #60 in Toronto at Array Space. It was the 60th edition of the self-curated improvised music series. I was placed in a trio with two artists I had never played with before, Bea Labikova and Raphael Roter. There is some video and audio footage of our trio online. It was a memorable and completely unplanned set of music.

I was overjoyed to be able to present Slow Man Tofu in a new manifestation: as a 4-piece band called the Light and Laughter Brigade. We played at the In The Soil Arts Festival in St. Catharine’s. The festival is a truly interdisciplinary gem featuring a wide variety of artists, installations and performances.

The band included Liam Fenton on drums and guitar, Matt Rogalsky on guitar and sounds, and Del Stephen on keys and tapes. In June, I was able to reassemble this group as a trio for two more shows in Kingston. I have hopes of getting all four back together for a recording session in December!

And finally, after lots of internet and IRL discussions, a group of musicians, artists and community members have gotten together in Kingston to rent a studio space to use as a music venue, art gallery space and rehearsal space! It’s at NGB studios and it’s a beautiful setting for a diversity of arts events. We’re all really excited to program events there. Stay tuned for more information that.
